Manhattan, 1900.... it doesn't get any better. There are society balls, expensive gowns, servants, and SCANDAL! I love getting deeper and deeper into the story and the characters. I love the series concept (in any genre), which allows you to learn more about the regular players. The more you read, the more you either love or hate them.
I find it very hard to review specific books in a series because I certainly don't want to give anything away (spoiler!). And, in this series in particular, I think you definitely need to read the first book The Luxe
But anyway, I can and will give you my opinion without spoiling anything for those of you who have yet to read this.
I love it, I love it, I love it!! I was rooting for the underdog and wishing that the witch would get what was coming to her!
I did feel that it ended kind of abruptly, but that didn't bother me too much because I know that when I start Splendor
I'm not going to keep rambling on about it. From my previous posts, you know how I feel. :)
So, the bottom line:
my gut reaction: see above*** where I say " I love it, I love it, I love it!"
my sleep-loss meter: 5 under-eye bags! Obviously, I already stated that I stayed up until 2 a.m. to finish this! I swear, you can't put it down! You will need lots and lots of coffee the following morning.
