So, I needed a new phone. All the kids on the playground were teasing me because I was still using a pink razor phone. What do I know? It worked - made the calls I needed to make, and albeit, it took me 20 minutes to send a 4 word text, but it worked.
Well, I was finally due for an upgrade - after giving mine to my two sons for the past three years! And I said "this time, the upgrade is for me!"
My fifteen year-old convinced me to get a Droid. I hemmed and hawed saying what do I need all that stuff for? Etc, etc. He had saved and saved, and finally bought himself one (with my upgrade (LOL) last November when they first came out. I played with it a few times and thought "nifty!"
So the two of us went to the Verizon store the other day to look at one for me. It wasn't a hard sell. I knew I wanted one, but didn't know if I could justify the price. Thank goodness the price has come down...a lot!
Twenty minutes later, I walked out with a cute little shopping bag and a whole lotta technology! This thing is ridiculous! (and for those of you not "hip" to the new lingo, ridiculous is a good thing! ;) I cannot stop playing with my new phone! I said to my husband that I can't believe the things that this thing is capable of! You could sit there for hours and hours just browsing through the applications you can download.
It can locate the nearest fast food joint; it can locate the nearest restroom; it can give you stock quotes, the latest news on CNN. There's a built in GPS. Movie quotes, song lyrics, alphabet games for your toddler.... I mean the list goes ON!
My favorite so far (my son is like, "really, Mom?") is the Book Worm application. You can scan the barcode on the back of a book and it will automatically input the title of the book, author, publisher, etc. and you can put it on an "already read" list (with your 1-5 star rating) or you can put it on a "TBR" list! It also has the cover image!!

I am totally smitten with my new technology. I am truly awed by what this phone is capable of! No wonder the other kids were laughing at me! Meanies!
I can download recipes so when I'm in the store and I can't remember if that Chicken Marsala calls for porcini mushrooms or portabella, I can just whip out my phone and look it up! And, I can scan a barcode and see which store in my area has the cheapest price for that product!

I am soooo happy that my son talked me into this little slice of heaven. And I'm sure that the more I find I can do with it, my happiness will just grow and grow and grow....... :)
