Review: Splendor by Anna Godbersen

So I finally got my grubby little paws on Splendor, the last chapter of Anna Godbersen's Luxe series.  Oh! It was so worth the wait!

This was the final chapter and I was so disappointed when I was finished with it!  As many of you know, turn-of-the-century New York City is my favorite setting.... for a novel, a movie, a tv series (how I wish they would make a series out of this!), whatever.

The Luxe novels are a series of young adult books set in 1900 Manhattan.  The series follows a jet-setting group of young privileged Manhattanites through all the trials and tribulations of being some of the city's most elite residents.

Splendor picks up right where Envy left off.  And by the end of the novel, I felt very satisfied with the way Godbersen tied up all the loose ends from the previous volumes.  I do wish there would be more to come, but she has a new series coming out in October, and you can bet your sweet you-know-what that I will be reading it!  This one will be set in the "Roaring 20's".... I'm thinking Gatsby and Daisy-esque (one could only hope...)

The Luxe novels definitely need to be read in chronological order, as there are references to the prior book in each one following.  But trust me when I tell you, it won't be a chore.  You will find yourself clamoring for more when you finish.

The balls, the parties, the costumes of the day.... dreamy, dreamy!  Just looking at the amazing covers should tell you that you're in for a treat.

Splendor, being the final chapter, did not disappoint.  It was just as rich in detail and period fodder as the first book, The Luxe.  And for those of you thinking, "young adult?  No thanks", seriously, if it wasn't labeled as such, you wouldn't be any the wiser.  It reads like an adult novel.

I beg you to give it a try.  If you like historical, if you like secrets, betrayal, jealousy, and revenge... there is nothing in The Luxe series that you will not like.
